Role Overview:

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students who may exhibit challenging behaviour. Working closely with teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and other support staff, you will provide targeted interventions and support strategies to help students manage their behaviour and engage positively with their learning.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with challenging behaviour, helping them to manage their emotions and develop positive coping strategies.

Implement behaviour management plans and interventions, in collaboration with teaching staff and SENCOs, to support students' individual needs.

Build positive relationships with students, establishing trust and rapport to facilitate effective support and intervention.

Assist in the development and implementation of personalised behaviour support plans, monitoring progress and adjusting strategies as necessary.

Work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies, such as educational psychologists and behavioural specialists, to provide holistic support for students.

Maintain accurate records of behaviour incidents and interventions, providing feedback to relevant stakeholders as required.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly those with challenging behaviour.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience in working with students facing behavioural challenges.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to respond effectively to changing circumstances and student needs.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in education, psychology, social work, or a related field (desirable but not essential).
