Challenging Behaviour Intervention Specialist

Referral Unit (PRU) / Learning Support setting, we prioritize understanding and addressing the unique needs of each student to help them succeed and thrive. Many of our students are disengaged from education and come from diverse backgrounds. 

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Challenging Behaviour Support Assistant to join our team. The primary focus of this role is to provide targeted support and interventions for students with challenging behaviors, many of whom have experienced trauma. Your role will involve implementing trauma-informed approaches to support students in overcoming barriers to learning and achieving their full potential.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the classroom teacher in 1:1 and small group interventions
  • Provide direct support and guidance to students in managing their behavior and developing positive coping strategies, utilising trauma-informed techniques.
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff and families to create a holistic support network for students.
  • Conduct assessments and analyses of challenging behaviors to identify underlying causes and triggers, considering the impact of trauma on students' behavior.
  • Act as a mentor and advocate for students, empowering them to take ownership of their behavior and learning, while acknowledging their past experiences and trauma.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with students with challenging behaviors in a PRU, Learning Support, or similar setting.
  • Strong understanding of behavior management principles and trauma-informed intervention strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement effective behavior intervention plans with sensitivity to trauma.
  • Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students, recognising their diverse backgrounds and experiences.

You will need to have suitable references and a DBS certificate (or be eligible to apply).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
