Flexible working - SEN Teaching Assistant

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)? We are currently seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to work on a supply basis within a Specialist SEN School setting. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support and guidance to students aged 11-16 with SEN, assisting them in regulating emotions, developing coping strategies, and navigating social interactions.
  • Implement behaviour management techniques tailored to the specific needs of students with ASD, including sensory regulation strategies and visual supports.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external professionals to deliver personalised behaviour support interventions and contribute to the development of individual support plans.
  • Assist in managing instances of challenging behaviour, using proactive strategies to prevent escalation and promote positive behaviour.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, behaviour incidents, and interventions, providing feedback to regular staff members as required.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment within the classroom and across the school, promoting understanding and acceptance of neurodiversity.
  • Provide guidance and support to regular teaching staff on best practices for supporting students with ASD and SEMH needs within the classroom environment.

Open to applicants from all backgrounds

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH and ASD needs, preferably within an education setting desirable.
  • Resilience and patience when working with challenging behaviour and complex emotional needs.
  • Ability to work flexibly on an adhoc basis, responding to the needs of the school as required.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, counselling, health care or a related field are desirable but not essential.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, adhering to organisational policies and procedures at all times.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain) is required for this role.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
