Pay Rate: £85 – £110 per day, dependent on experience and qualifications

Supply Desk is working with a welcoming primary school in Portsmouth that is looking for a Teaching Assistant / Higher Level Teaching Assistant with strong behaviour and SEMH experience to provide dedicated support to a pupil with behavioural and emotional needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is calm, patient and consistent, and who can build a positive relationship with a pupil while helping them access learning, develop emotional regulation and become more independent.

The role will involve working closely with the class teacher, SENDCo, parents/carers and other professionals to provide consistent and personalised support.

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with behavioural and emotional needs

• Build a trusting, positive and professional relationship

• Support emotional regulation, resilience and positive behaviour

• Help the pupil access the curriculum and participate fully in school life

• Deliver targeted academic, social and emotional interventions

• Adapt activities and resources to meet individual needs

• Support learning within the classroom and lead small-group activities

• Implement behaviour support plans and risk assessments

• Use positive and restorative approaches to support behaviour

• Monitor and record progress against individual targets

• Work closely with teachers, SENDCo, parents and external professionals

• Where appropriate, deliver pre-planned lessons in line with HLTA responsibilities

• Previous experience supporting children with behavioural, SEMH or emotional needs

• A calm, patient and nurturing approach

• Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills

• Able to remain consistent and professional in challenging situations

• Experience delivering interventions or supporting individual learning plans

• TA or HLTA qualifications/experience would be advantageous

• Confident working as part of a wider SEND and pastoral team

• Passionate about helping children develop confidence, independence and resilience
