Teaching Personnel is recruiting SEMH Behaviour & Resilience Mentors to work across specialist primary and secondary SEMH provisions in the Wigan area. These schools support pupils with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs, including anxiety, trauma, attachment difficulties, ADHD, ASD, emotional dysregulation, low self-esteem, challenging behaviour, and difficulties with social communication.

This rewarding role is ideal for individuals with experience in education, youth work, support work, coaching, mental health services, care settings, or those looking to build a career supporting vulnerable young people.

The Role

As a SEMH Behaviour & Resilience Mentor, you will play a key role in supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom, helping them regulate emotions, develop positive relationships, and engage successfully with their education.

Key Responsibilities

• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
• Provide 1:1 and small group behaviour and emotional support.
• Support pupils in managing challenging behaviours and emotional regulation.
• Implement behaviour strategies and individual support plans.
• Encourage engagement, attendance, and participation in learning activities.
• Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and external professionals.
• Act as a positive role model and mentor for young people.
• Record behavioural progress and contribute to pupil reviews and reports.
• Support pupils during transitions, breaktimes, and enrichment activities.

Requirements

• Experience working with children or young people in education, youth work, care, coaching, mentoring, support work, or similar settings.
• Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
• Resilient, patient, and empathetic approach.
• A genuine passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs.
• Ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
• Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
• Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential.
