SEMH Support Staff - Alternative Provision & Specialist Settings

Location: Liverpool
Pay: £95 - £110 per day
Hours: 6.5-hour school day

Teaching Personnel Liverpool are currently recruiting SEMH Support Staff to work across a range of specialist education settings throughout Liverpool, including Alternative Provisions (APs), Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), and SEMH-focused secondary schools.

We are seeking confident, resilient, and proactive individuals who can build positive relationships with young people facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges. These roles are full-time and long-term, offering the opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of vulnerable students.

About the Role

Students within these settings often present with a range of additional needs, including SEMH difficulties, ADHD, Autism, trauma-related needs, and challenging behaviour. Many pupils may have experienced barriers to education and require consistent support to re-engage with learning.

As an SEMH Support Worker, you will:

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to secondary-aged students.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
• Support students both inside and outside the classroom.
• Assist with behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
• Work alongside teachers, pastoral teams, and SENCOs to support individual learning and behaviour plans.
• Act as a positive role model, encouraging engagement, attendance, and personal development.

Candidate Requirements

Due to the nature of these roles, candidates must be comfortable working in environments that can be challenging at times.

The ideal candidate will:

• Have experience supporting young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, or additional learning needs.
• Possess strong behaviour management skills and confidence in responding to challenging situations.
• Remain calm, patient, and professional under pressure.
• Be resilient and able to establish clear boundaries and expectations.
• Have experience in education, youth work, support work, care, coaching, mentoring, or similar roles.
• Be passionate about helping young people achieve positive outcomes.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
