Smile Education are seeking a dedicated and qualified SEND Primary Teacher to assume a lead role in providing high-quality teaching and effective use of resources within an ofsted graded 'Good' SEND specialist school in Wolverhampton.

The successful candidate will play a key role in improving standards of learning and achievement for all students, developing and implementing policies aligned with the school's commitment to high achievement, effective teaching, and learning. Responsibilities include creating a positive climate for staff development, establishing the importance and role of the subject in students' holistic development, using data effectively, managing administrative requirements, and promoting excellence in teaching and learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement subject-specific policies and practices.
  • Create a positive climate for staff development and confidence in teaching.
  • Establish a clear understanding of the subject's contribution to students' development.
  • Use data to identify underachieving students and implement effective support plans.
  • Monitor progress, evaluate effects on teaching and learning, and guide further improvement.
  • Manage administrative tasks such as examination entry and accurate record-keeping.
  • Ensure Risk Assessments and Health and Safety procedures are in place and adhered to.
  • Promote excellence in teaching and learning, maintaining a suitable learning environment.
  • Contribute to the broader school life, supporting and leading curricular and extracurricular events.
  • Work towards effective curriculum coverage, continuity, and progression.
  • Establish clear policies for assessing, recording, and reporting student achievement.
  • Develop links with the local community and industry to enhance the curriculum.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Assessment:
  • Regularly assess and record individual student progress within the department.
  • Conduct regular and consistent assessments for each year group.
  • Use performance and bench marked data to maintain high standards of learning.
Whole School Contribution:
  • Contribute to the welfare and safeguarding of all students.
  • Contribute to the development of whole school policy and School Improvement Plan.
  • Support the school's aims, ethos, and policies.

To apply for the role:
  • Must hold QTS
  • Have experience teaching across both Key Stage 1 and 2
  • Successful teaching experience with students with SEND
  • Experience of understanding and interpreting data to identify and act upon underachievement and under performance and inform planning
  • Ability to take initiative, lead, motivate, inspire and support students to achieve excellence
  • Manage a classroom and have the ability to teach outstanding lessons
  • Understanding of the new OFSTED Framework regarding Teaching & Learning and Leadership and Management
  • A range of strategies for creating a positive climate for learning
