Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant passionate about supporting children and young people with complex special educational needs?

A specialist SEN school in Cranleigh is looking for dedicated, compassionate and resilient Specialist Teaching Assistants to join its supportive and experienced team.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine difference to the lives of pupils who require a high level of individualised support, care and encouragement.

As a Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to provide personalised support to primary and secondary-aged pupils with complex SEN.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support throughout the school day

  • Supporting pupils with complex learning and additional needs

  • Helping pupils develop communication, independence and life skills

  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour

  • Following individual education, care and support plans

  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and other specialist professionals

  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils

  • Supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom

  • Encouraging engagement, confidence and independence

  • Providing personal care support, including toileting, changing, dressing and other intimate care where required

  • Supporting pupils with their personal hygiene and wellbeing in a respectful and dignified manner

  • Contributing to a safe, structured and nurturing environment

We are looking for experienced and passionate TAs who understand that working in a complex SEN environment requires patience, consistency, resilience and genuine compassion.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN

  • Experience supporting pupils with complex or additional needs

  • Confidence or willingness to provide personal care

  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach

  • Confidence managing challenging situations and behaviours

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • The ability to build strong and trusting relationships with pupils

  • A commitment to promoting dignity, independence and wellbeing

  • The resilience and flexibility required to work in a specialist setting

Experience supporting pupils with ASC, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties, sensory needs, physical disabilities or complex learning needs would be highly desirable.

Relevant qualifications in Teaching Assistance, Education, Childcare, Health & Social Care or SEN are welcomed, although strong practical experience will also be considered.
